Democracy has now become the buzz word in the politics of Ethiopia. Those who harp on ethno-nationalist plights and demands; others who are concerned about unity and the ill consequences of identity politics; and still others who consider it as the remedy for a liberal political transformation keep talking about democratization. But what exactly does democratization entail? What are the terms and conditions for each of these camps when they demand ‘democratization”? Are these reconcilable interests or otherwise?
